The news department has seven reporters covering an area that stretches from
Colborne in the west to Kingston in the east and from Bancroft in the north to Picton in the south.


Todd Smith

Todd Smith - News Director (todd@mix97.com)
Todd has been the News Director at Quinte Broadcasting stations 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107 since 2006. The native of Riverview, New Brunswick moved to Belleville to attend Loyalist College and has been on staff at QBC since 1993. Todd, Tawnya and their two girls Payton and Reagan spend a lot of time swimming and travelling. When Todd's away from the office he can often be found at the Bay of Quinte Golf Club, coaching his daughter's sports teams in Stirling or volunteering with numerous charities.

Todd can be heard anchoring morning newscasts on Mix 97 and Rock 107 and during his regular Monday Morning Round Table on the Lorne Brooker show on 800 CJBQ. He's also the back-up play-by-play voice of the Belleville Bulls.


Jack Miller

Jack Miller - Sports Director (jack@mix97.com)
Jack started at Quinte Broadcasting back in the 1970's and has made quite an impression on our community. The Cornwall native started as the host of CJBQ's afternoon show and moved into the Sports Director's Chair in 1979. Jack has been the play-by-play voice of the Belleville Bulls since 1981 and spends his Christmas Break working with Team Canada on the National Radio Broadcasts at the World Junior Tournament. He was also elected to Belleville City Council in 2006.

Jack can be heard weekday mornings bringing you the latest sports scores on 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107. Or shouting "He Scores" at an OHL rink near you.


Bill Holland

Bill Holland (billholland@cjtn.com)
Bill has been bringing Quinte the news since 1979. The Belleville native is a Quinte Secondary School graduate and knows the area like the back of his hand. When not at work Bill can be found running the roads with his wife Robin or daughter Rachel. If you have a local news tip contact him at billholland@cjbq.com.

John Spitters

John Spitters (johnspitters@cjbq.com)
John was born in Belleville in 1956 and has been committed to bringing Quinte the local news for most of the last thirty years. John graduated from Centennial Secondary School in 1975 and Ryerson in 1978. After a stint in radio sales John returned to his favorite department fulltime in 2006. When he's out of the Newsroom John can often be found enjoying a round of golf.

John can be heard weekday afternoons anchoring the news on 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107. John also covers Quinte West Council and its various committees.


Mary Thomas

Mary Thomas (marythomas@cjbq.com)
Mary has been a member of the Quinte Broadcasting news team since 1976. The longtime journalist worked at newspapers in Sudbury and Toronto and has also had three novels published. For more information on her books go to www.behindenemylines.com. Mary's work has taken her to Bosnia, Honduras and Canada's Arctic.

Mary can be heard reporting on Belleville City Council Meetings and many other news stories in the Quinte region. Mary is also host of Newsmaker Sunday on 800 CJBQ.


Grace LaRose

David Foot
David is a native of Newmarket and graduated from the Broadcast Journalism program at Loyalist College in 2006. An avid sports fan, David was the play-by-play voice for the Loyalist Lancers basketball teams on Loyalist Radio. When he's not at work David umpires baseball and watches sports on TV.

David can be heard anchoring weekend news on 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107.


Grace LaRose

Grace La Rose
Grace was born and raised in Prince Edward County and spent most of her teenage years working in tourism and as a Museum assistant. Grace graduated from the Broadcast Journalism program at Loyalist College in 2006 and is currently taking the post-graduate Public Relations program.

Grace can be heard reporting from Prince Edward Council meetings and anchoring newscasts on 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107.

Alison Dickey  (alison@mix97.com)

Alison grew up in Cambridge and then moved to Toronto to take the Business
Administration Program at George Brown College.  She's currently finishing
up her last year in the Broadcast Journalism Program at Loyalist College.
In her spare time Alison enjoys reading and spending time with friends.

Alison can be heard on Mix 97, Rock 107 and CJBQ covering shifts when needed.



James Morgan
James was born in Belleville but has spent most of his life living in Central and Southwestern Ontario. He developed his passion for local news while working as a freelance reporter for newspapers and a radio station in Wingham. James has a B.A. in History from Wilfred Laurier and a Masters from University of Ottawa. He enjoys camping, hiking reading and photography.

James can be heard anchoring weekend news on 800 CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107.



Joyce Cassin
Joyce is a freelance reporter for Quinte Broadcasting. Although her full-time job is covering the news for the Port Hope Evening Guide she has been contributing stories on newsmakers in Brighton to CJBQ, Mix 97 and Rock 107 for several years.

Joyce reports on Brighton Council meetings and keeps us up to date on news from the Brighton Health Services Centre.
