Balloon boy bad…Media worse!!!

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Balloon Boy is safe and sound…that should have been the end of it. The satellite trucks and news choppers should have blown the Heene pop stand and the world should be moving on. BUT NO…now there is talk of a hoax, that this whole thing is a publicity stunt because a six year old boy said (when asked why he hid out in the attic) that “You had said that we did this for a show”  We are now making this whole thing a show….If there is any doubt, let the police investigate and make charges…until they do, let’s close the court of public opinion for the day and believe that little Falcons parents are up in the clouds, not in a funny looking helium balloon; but because their son is alive and well, and grounded from the family Nintendo for the rest of his natural life!!!

Added Oct 19….Well I see there is now going to be charges against  the Heene parents and this was all a hoax; a stunt to get a reality show. I am sad that the world works in this way. That a man looking for fame can destroy his family and add to the argument that we are loosing our humanity…Little by little I am sadly starting to think that this might be true!

Possible National Day of Sobriety?

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

No one thought Vince Hartmann would be able to kick his drug and alcohol addiction, but over a year ago he proved the cynics wrong, and on July 31, 2009, he started on a mission to beat the odds again. Starting in Victoria, Hartmann set out on his bike, working his way across Canada, raising awareness about addiction, until he reaches Ottawa in mid-October.

“My passion is to bring awareness to the struggle of addiction, and to raise money for organizations like Union Gospel Mission who are helping people to overcome it,” says Hartmann, who was on both the provincial and national cycling teams in his youth. “I’m so grateful to have come through that painful time in my life, and now wish to use some of my life’s accomplishments to raise the needed money for those who can’t afford the kind of help I’ve received.” Hartmann will be joined by countless other cyclists on his journey. “I am inviting anyone who has been touched by addiction to come along and ride with me for a little bit” Hartmann adds, “I could use the encouragement”. To follow along Vince’s ride you can check out his website at NATIONAL DAY OF SOBRIETY

A true visionary, Hartmann’s goal isn’t simply one cycling excursion across Canada—it’s to eventually establish The National Day of Sobriety on February 3rd. Hartmann met the Premier of BC to present him with Hartmann’s Championship jersey, and is hoping to meet with the Prime Minister of Canada to present him with Hartmann’s National Championship jersey, lobbying them both to establish this special holiday.

Vince needs our support.  He will be in the Quinte area until Thursday of this week. We would love an opportunity for Vince to make a difference in our area.  Are you someone who can help Vince get his message out or do you know someone whose life has been affected by addictions?  We would love for you to be involved.

GO Leafs GO or NO Leafs NO?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Leafs Nation…..PLEASE remain calm!!! Stop freaking out and jumping off the bandwagon five games in. OK, so your beloved buds have one point in the first five games…so what if they are dead last…what do you expect!!! If they had five wins and nada in the loss category you would already be deciding what streets to close down for the Stanley cup parade . When we had the NHL roundtable on the show a couple of weeks back the talk was not whether the team would win the cup but if they would make the playoffs. That does not instill a great deal of confidence in the teams ability to win. If hope lies in achieving only a playoff spot it is indeed a grim hope. Burke has put together a tough team that has to put something together…it’s only five games in…and the odds say they have to win soon…of course those are only odds and sometimes reality has been known to defy theorem mathematics!!! One more thing; all you bandwagon jumpers out there reading this; remember if someone handed you a pair of platinum’s….are you going to decline cause the haven’t won the cup since 67′ Leafs are stinking up the place? Of course not!!! You’ll be cheering nose plugs in hand!!! GO LEAFS GO!!! I Think! (more…)

I’ll have turkey, some stuffing and a little thanks!

Well it’s Thanksgiving weekend everyone…Fall is definitely here, leaves are hitting the ground and the wind is cool. As we sit down to a meal with family and friends over the next few days I urge everyone to stop what they are doing…look around and think about how lucky you are…if nothing else just to still be alive and on this planet. Give your kids and grand kids a hug even if they try to pull away, and tell them you love them. Remember life is a mountain range…if you are in a valley today you’ll be looking down at it soon enough and if your view is pretty good right now remember, what goes up must come down…it’s how you handle the ride that counts!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Down with Haaapppy Birthday to you…

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

So let me paint the picture in your mind….It is my daughters seventh birthday and we take her to a popular family style roadhouse restaurant in Belleville for dinner. Her decision because they make a big deal and sing to you when it is your birthday. We have a tasty meal and then a few staffers come over put a stupid hat on her melon and kinda sing a little birthday ditty. It was all fine and the kid loved it; but what I loved is the look and actions of the singing staff when they are done. It could not have been more fake; smile while singing then quickly turn away to go back to what you were doing all the while showing your disdain for this part of the job!!! Let’s put an end to the “Birthday Rap”. There has to be a better way to celebrate someones big day without the staff hating the execution. Any ideas?…let me know it may come up on the show one day. Ding(bell rings) gotta go…time to rap to that little brat on table five…watch out for the flying chicken fingers!!!

“From the Crusades to the modern age of chemical warfare and smart bombs, history is littered with truly disastrous military campaigns. How to Lose a War chronicles some of the most remarkable strategic catastrophes and doomed military adventures of overreaching invaders and clueless defenders—whether the failure was a result of poor planning, miscalculations, monumental ego, or failed intelligence . . . or just a really stupid idea to begin with. Alexander invades India—and ends up in deep vindaloo. Sacre bleu! The French are humiliated by Prussia in 1870. spain’s “invincible navy” breaks up off the coast of britain while attempting an invasion. the mau mau rebellion against the british in kenya shows us how not to run an insurgency. Chiang Kai-Shek’s pathetic army fails to keep Mao’s Communists from grabbing China.” Taken from the mobipocket website

H1N1 is a BIG PIG

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

We have only ourselves to blame… the media that is, for this constant barrage of implied fear concerning the H1N1 virus or as our red, white and blue friends to the south enjoy keeping the moniker “Swine Flu”.  This Global pandemic has been so blown out of proportion by us media types I am surprised we aren’t all wearing surgical masks and hazmat suits. The fact is that H1N1 is here again and some people are going to get very sick; some will even die! Here is what the media is not reporting enough of… about 4,000 Canadians die each year from the seasonal flu. There are no news stories or glossy magazine articles about this because it is just part of life… PEOPLE DIE FROM THE FLU!!! According to the medical experts the H1N1 will dominate the flu spectrum this year and since it is much more mild than the seasonal flu, especially for seniors; less people will die from flu this year in Canada then last.  In fact doctors say they expect around 400 H1N1 deaths this year… now this is only a prediction but 400 is much less then 4,000. Has this good news been reported? Not much, if at all. I am not saying that we should not take this or any flu outbreak seriously but the fact of the matter is this Mrs. Piggy of a flu will be here and gone by the time the vaccine arrives (great planning by our Federal Government) and some people reading this may get the flu. So if you get sick, slide into bed, have some chicken soup… listen to my show, watch Oprah and for gods sake… if you are going to upchuck and flush anything down the toilet; make it all the negative media hype about this baconator of a virus… sorry Wendy’s, the word fit!!!
