Furniture Tips

Here is a few idea’s to help you maintain your furniture:

Fabric Furniture

1. Vacuum Weekly – keep your furniture looking its best with a weekly vacuum or as often as you dust your

end tables. Make sure to vacuum all surfaces, especially cushions, arms and decking.

2. Reverse Cushions – if your furniture has reversible cushions, be sure to flip them over every couple of

weeks to ensure equal wear on all sides.

3. Don’t Remove Cushion Covers – Never remove cushion covers for dry cleaning or machine washing – even

if they have zippers. You may risk shrinkage or permanent damage.

4. Beware of Dyes – Never cover your furniture with dark coloured blankets or sheets as the dye may rub off

or bleed into the fabric if it should become wet.

5. Avoid UV Rays – Keep your upholstered furniture away from direct sunlight. Even the most versatile

fabrics could fade due to sun exposure.

Leather Furniture

1. Avoid Sources of Heat – You may like the idea of cozying up next to the fireplace, but your leather

furniture won’t like it! Radiators and fireplaces have a drying effect on leather which could cause permanent

moisture loss and could cause your leather to become stiff and brittle.

2. Avoid UV Rays – Never place furniture in direct sunlight. In addition to drying out your leather, UV rays

can rapidly fade the colour of your furniture.

3. Dust Frequently – To help avoid accumulation of dust, simply take a clean white cloth towel, dampen lightly

(purified water is best) and gently wipe all surfaces of your leather furniture.

4. Avoid Sharp Objects – Remember that leather is a skin and is subject to cuts, tears, burns and surface

scratches. Be careful when moving furniture and avoid using sharp objects such as scissors, pens, keys, etc.,

near you leather furniture.

5. Beware of Dyes – Never cover your leather furniture with dark colour fabrics of blankets (especially red).

If the fabric becomes wet it could easily transer dye to your furniture

About Jackie

I am fairly new to the Leon's Trenton store, two years, but my eagerness to help a customer with their home and decor purchases has been a long lived passion of mine.

I look forward to helping you with important purchases such as a quality mattress for your physical well being or furniture and accessories to make your house a home.

I have enjoyed living, working, playing and raising my family in the Quinte area. I enjoy traveling, gatherings with family and friends, and of course HGTV programs.

I am very proud to say that I work for a family owned Canadian company.
